Our Projects
Development of an industrially relevant microbial consortia based of functional characterization

PrEl’s does extensive research identifying, isolating, characterizing, optimizing native microorganisms and developing novel enzymes that can substitute or complement the current industrial processes to improve their performance and to bring down their detrimental environmental implications. We are developing a microbial consortia with functionalities addressing the specific issues of the different industries. The microbiome will predominantly contain the strains that have been isolated and characterized from the local microenvironment.

Development of a biopolymer-based hybrid bioadsorbent for treating effluents from polluting industries

Organic and inorganic pollutants from various industries are detrimental to both environment and health. Managing the effluent stream by reducing the toxic pollutants is critical to maintain the successful continuation of industries, ensure safety of humans and environment and to salvage the decreasing fresh water sources and fertile lands. Bioadsorption is a promising green-technology that employs materials from various natural sources. Bio-adsorptive composite approach is a harmless and eco-friendly method employed for heavy metal treatment in water system, dyes removal, effluent filtration etc. The uniqueness of proposed study is to formulate a multifunctional hybrid adsorbent composite using agricultural and plant-based waste products and develop it as non-hazardous biodegradable-based hybrid-bioadsorbent with functional bacteria (from the same ecosystem) and the metabolites.
